Brian Gauvin, Waterline, 13"x19" archival color pigment print.
Open edition.
Satsuma Orchard: Port Sulphur, Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana USA.
This print depicts a satsuma grove after hurricane Katrina shoved a sea of brackish water through breaches in the levy along the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish. The standing salty brine left the first seven feet of these Satsuma trees white, and the dead trees' foliage above brown.
Waterline was the feature promotional piece for “Eyes on the Storm,” an exhibit subtitled “FAC debuts creative interpretations of Hurricane Katrina,” at the Colorado Fine Arts Center. It was also a feature piece for “Come Hell and High Water,” a group-show that included works by Jackson Hill and Thomas Neff at BC Space, Laguna Beach, California.
Waterline was exhibited in “ Katrina Exposed” at the New Orleans Museum of Art, and resides in their permanent collection.
