About African Nights

I began photographing life at night in African cities and towns in 2000. I am drawn to the patchy street lighting that brushes and beautifully defines the movement of people on the streets.

The photographs in this exhibition were taken in Angola, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Senegal, South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

African Nights has been exhibited in three locations:
The Castle, Cape Town, South Africa in the Cape Town Month of Photography in March-April 2002;
Museum Africa, Johannesburg, South Africa, June – September 2002;
XII Encuentros Abiertos de Fotografia
, a photography biennale in Buenos Aires, Argentina in August 2002.
