Biography:
I started photographing the streets of New Orleans at the ripe old age of seventeen. After stints as a camera salesman, door-to-door portrait photographer, and biological medical photographer, I started my commercial photography business in 1981. My client list grew to include such companies as Maxwell House, IBM, Fanny Mae, Nextell, GM and Disney, as well as many freelance assignments in New Orleans and the Gulf South. Years of shooting and exploring the French Quarter paid off in 1991 when I started taking photographs for the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation selling New Orleans to people around the world, more of a joy than a challenge. Fortunately that work continues today with book publications, including Phillip Collier’s Mixing New Orleans, Tabasco; An Illustrated History, and a forthcoming cookbook for Commanders Palace Restaurant. Select images have been included in many group shows, including Mobile’s Saltline Biennial and the Grand Opening of their Center for the Creative Arts.
In 2000 I started concentrating on fine art photography and began experimenting with the new digital medium. Going from many years of shooting film to digital was like running downhill at first, with so much control and so many technical choices. I find the biggest challenge, besides trying to keep up with the technical advancements, is to know when to back off and concentrate on the images instead of the hardware. I am currently living and working out of a renovated corner grocery store in Uptown New Orleans that I share with my daughters Isabelle and Lucy. Photography has been extremely rewarding for me and I look forward to sharing my images and facing all the new challenges of the medium.
Published Editorial List includes: Bon Apetite Food & Wine, Elle décor, House Beautiful, Cooking Light, National Geographic Traveler and Wine Spectator Magazine.
